PERSONALIZING YOUR SPACE- MEGAN from LITTLE BLUE PRINTS
I was looking for guest bloggers a few weeks ago when I came across Megan’s blog. I instantly noticed all the personal touches Megan had incorporated into her house to make sure her family’s space represented them and who they were. Thankfully Megan agreed to come on over and share some ideas with all of us! Take it away Megan!

Hi everyone, my name is Megan and I’m the author of Little Blue Prints where I share my adventures in decorating, and craft projects. First let me say thank you Kara for letting me come here today and share some simple and small ways to personalize your home.

My husband and I bought our first home a little over 4 years ago and received so much joy taking it from a builder basic house to making it our home through paint, cabinet refinishing, and even replacing the carpet with wood floors. Almost a year ago we sold our home and are now living in a rental. It’s a pretty basic builder, nothing special house and because we are renting we aren’t able to replace and upgrade things like we were at our old home but I still wanted it to feel like OUR home. Here are some of the small and easy ways I’ve personalized our home so it represents us. {Click on the captions under the photos to read more about that particular project}

1. First Impressions:

This is what you see when you first enter into our home… a simple framed monogram with a homemade chalkboard welcoming our guests in… It’s our first chance to show people this is OUR home and not just someone’s rental house…

2. Silhouettes:

I love silhouettes so it was only fitting to have all of our kids silhouettes done at Disney world. It not only marks a special day, each of their’s first trip to Disney which I consider to be my second home growing up, but also adds a very personal touch to our home. The silhouettes are sitting on cavases covered in pages from a “Le Petite Prince” book, perfect for our 3 princes…

3. Family Heirlooms:

Family heirlooms are another great way to add a personal touch to your home. In the kitchen I’ve hung some of mine and my dad’s old baby silverware I framed in an extra frame I had lying around…

4. Monograms:

I wanted our son’s rooms to have personalization to them as well. I love monograms as much as I love silhouettes so I used a lot of monograming in their room. Above each bed I created a piece of art displaying the initial of their first name…

They each also have a pillow I monogramed myself with some extra fabric and some of that heat and bond transfer paper…

The sleepy bunnies on their beds (which were newborn gifts from a dear friend) each have their name on one ear and their birthdate on the other…

They were given some superhero capes as a gift a couple years ago as well and each one displays thier first initial. These are hanging on the wall as you walk in and adds a special touch to making thier room thiers…

I have our monogram above our bed in our room too. Simply done by printing out our first initials off the computer in a font I liked and paired with a metal ‘S’ we already had (yeah I still need to find pictures for those empty frames)…

5. One of a Kind Art Work:

Throughout the house I’ve also displayed some of our kids’ artwork…

These are cork boards I made myself to hang and change out art work they bring home from school…

{homemade message boards}

And another piece of art they did (I think this one is my favorite), is just each of their footprints in thier color choice on a piece of 5×7 canvas. It’s simple and easy but adds a lot of personalization to our home, and it’s a great memory to have in the future of just how small they were at this age…

Personalizing your home, whether it’s in a house you own or in a rental, is an easy and simple thing to do. Of course we still have photos framed and scattered throughout the house but it’s nice to have pieces that are just a bit more personal than the average photo, pieces you won’t find in our neighbor’s house.

Thanks again Kara for invinting me here today and letting me share some of the ways we have personalized our home!

    Great post! I love all the monogrammed ideas. And the baby spoons! I have a spoon from the midwife I used with my second baby with an inscription engraved on it, I think it might look better in a frame than my son’s baby keepsake box.
