PREMATURE AGING

PREMATURE AGING
Generally premature aging has a negative connotation, but not today! I am in the process of finishing the 3rd bedroom here at our lovely cottage. The room has taken on a worldly, library-esque sort of feel. I think you are really going to like it!
Anyway, these ikea curtains I had in the closet finally got a chance to come out and play.
The only problem was they were bright white and that was just not going to work in this cozy space. So, now we get to the how-to of the post. I aged these crisp curtains to a beautiful time-worn tone!
Here’s what I did:
1. Boiled some water.
2. Added 3 tea bags and let them seep. No tea? Try coffee!
3. Added the tea mixture to a sink full of scalding hot tap water along with my curtain panels. Then I agitated and stirred for a while.
4. Let them soak for a couple of hours and then threw them in the dryer (you could also let them hang dry, but I was too impatient and this particular material does not shrink).
Here’s how they came out. . .
So, there you have it- years added in mere minutes! The process works on many types of fabrics and colors so try it out for yourself! Once again, I would love to see any project that you complete that was inspired by something on the blog! Send those pictures my way!
More photos of the bedroom will be coming soon!!!
