It is Tim here, back at the keyboard. It has always been my dream to follow Madonna. I hope I don’t disappoint. I have another piece of furniture to show off today. This piece is pretty simple in form, but has taken me forever to nail down finishes and other little details. Although I am quite pleased with how this version turned out I have a couple more in progress that I am going to try some different things on.
I want pieces to work for customers so I try to give options. The otherside of the oak finish is a white wash. It creates a totally different look.
Eventually there will be two more finish options, because concealed inside this stool, side table is another shelf with storage space inside. The shelf and the top can be swapped out so you have up to four different looks in this one piece. I need to finalize the final two colors so if you have any suggestions let me know.
I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures, but this actually a steel pipe I claimed from the scrap heap. He is all there, tipping the scaled around 90 lbs. I was concerned that customers would always be calling me needing my muscles to move this guy around, so I put it on casters. Even with his girth and low profile he glides gracefully across the floor.
After talking to a couple of people who saw my last table on the blog and then in person it was apparent that the scale of the piece was not translating across cyber space. People thought it was a lot bigger than it was. So to prevent any confusion I added an object everyone should be familiar with, this #7 cow vertebrae, so you can accurately judge the size of this piece.

UPDATE- Here’s a new top I’ve put on the stool. It’s a cross section of a stump. Kara loves it.
I want it. Like right now. 90 lbs shipped to FL would probably be astronomical though :(. Seriously though I love the piece, although I’m not familiar with cow vertebrae sizing so I have no clue how big it actually is.
You’re genius and it is gorgeous!! The patina of the pipe is amazing! the wood just brings warmth to the pieces. Gosh, I love it!
Oh, and btw, a cow vertebrae? Really? Like we all know the size of that. LOL.
Beautiful! But, as for the scale… I have no clue how big a cow vertebrae is. Maybe you could put an apple or coffee mug on it next time 🙂
I am loving the juxtaposition of the steel and wood. I prefer the darker wood. Casters – brilliant. Other suggestions – hmmm – I kind of think you nailed it.
