Searching for “Soul Inspiring” Stories

Searching for “Soul Inspiring” Stories

I am a self professed dreamer.  Ever since I can remember, I have believed anything is possible if I set my mind to it and work incredibly hard (not for days or months, but for years).  However, it’s not always easy to stay motivated.

I have always loved the fact that this blog was a place that I could not only share design inspiration, but soul inspiration as well.  Unfortunately, I haven’t posted a “soul inspiring” story in a while.  This is a huge problem for me.  If I fail to find inspiration, my vision/focus will start to get blurry.  Lately, I have been creatively inspired, but not “soul inspired.”  What I mean is that I have to actively work on keeping my passion alive.  When you’re working non-stop, even when it’s doing something you love, and failing to nurture your soul it’s easy to “lose your grip on the dreams of the past.”  Just as the Rocky song says, you must fight just to keep them (dreams) alive!”

Lately, I have just been feeling a little beat up and like I need a boost. So, I know many of you come here to be inspired.  But can you help a girl out today?  What’s been inspiring you on a deeper level lately?  Now of course, I will be excited to see what you guys suggest, but I think it’s important not to rely on others to help you unless you are also trying to help yourself.  So, what will I be doing to get myself back on track?  First and foremost, I’ll be connecting with my Creator.

It’s pretty amazing how God meets you where you are when you need Him.  Sadly, with the amount of work that I’ve been doing, I have neglected to nurture my spiritual self.  Since I believe our passions and dreams (at least the ones worth pursuing) come from the Lord, our creator, I know that a disconnect from Him also means there will be a short circuit in my heart.  So, the past few days I’ve made an effort to reach out to God, and don’t you know, He’s already grabbed a hold of me.

Yesterday, I was searching for a photo for a blog post and came across this one. . .

This is a picture of me and Ron Brewer.  Ron was a legendary basketball player at the University of Arkansas and went on to play in the NBA.  I spent hours with Ron every week day during my middle school, junior high and high school careers.  From his wealth of knowledge, he taught me how to play the game I loved.  When I look back, I am amazed at his time sacrifice and the patience he had with me.  It might sound crazy, but thinking about the investment that Ron made in me then makes me want to be better now.  Even though I am no longer pursuing basketball, I am pursuing a dream.  Ron didn’t just teach me how to play basketball, he (and my dad) taught me how to work for a dream.  Thinking about this reality is definitely helping to get me back on track.

So, I found that photo yesterday and then today, I turned on the TV as I was sitting down to write this post and guess who just happened to be a guest on “Kelly and Michael?”  Dolly Parton!!!!   You know I love her.  I think we are all drawn to different people.  I am drawn to Dolly because of her inspiring story and her feisty personality.  Anytime I see an interview with her or hear one of her songs, I am inspired.  Have you found those people that are a source of inspiration for you?

PS- Apparently Dolly has a book coming out- “Dream More,” which I will definitely be picking up!

To me, finding that photo and seeing the interview are ways that the Lord is using others to rejuvenate the dream He’s put inside me.  Of course, I don’t want to stop with this.  I will continue to spend time with God and look for “soul inspired” inspiration.  Can you suggest any motivating methods/stories today?

I know there are a number of people feeling just like me today.  I’ve gotten a few e-mails from others searching for advice on pursuing their own dreams.  If you’re one of those people, check out these two posts.  Some have found them helpful. 🙂

“Becoming a Dreamer”

“Taking the Plunge”  -PS- This post is not just for those wanting to go into interior design.  There are tips that pertain to any career/goal.

With a little faith, work, and persistence I know one day, we’ll be feeling like this. . . 🙂

Isn’t it funny how things work…you found pictures to remind you to rejuvenate your dreams and to be soulful…in return your words reminded me to nurture my soul. Motivation sometimes has to come from within; sometimes it comes from people who are passionate about their craft. It helps when we are surrounded with people who share the same passions. God works in mysterious ways, He sends us messages in form of Earth Angels. Thank you for your message.

I love that you knew just where to go when you were feeling a little empty-you went to Jesus and of course he met you right where you were. The only thing I might add is that our soul is fed when we help others in need, especially in these winter and holiday months, so continue to plan regular ‘dates’ to pour your love and show Christ to others

Jennifer, you are absolutely right! Helping others in need is exactly what I need to do. I have been convicted of not doing that enough lately. Thank you for your comment! 🙂
