I know Kara said I would have something for you on Friday, but I didn’t get my post ready in time. I was really busy trying to finish up my latest project. I thought I would have it done last week, but hit a few bumps in the road. This was a smaller project and I felt more like Martha Stewart than Norm Abrams. It involved a little woodworking, but I spent most of my time painting, stenciling, and laying out letters. I wouldn’t normally go to this much trouble, but this project is for a very special person.
Meet Ford.
He was born just a couple of weeks ago to some of our best friends. His mom has been one of Kara’s most supportive friends. She is always very complimentary of Kara’s projects, but she isn’t good at hiding how she feels about things. On a few rare occasions she has been know to go to her standby response of “It isn’t quite my style, but I am sure somebody will like it.”
Anyways, as of last week Ford’s room was pink. His mom had a beautiful nursery set up to welcome a little girl, but not so fast. She had a big surprise on her hand’s. A 9 pound 7 ounce surprise. Ford was a bit modest during the ultrasound and didn’t show off the goods.
I feel like a have a special bond with Ford. A big baby bond. Ford only had me beat by 1 ounce. See for yourself.
It is tough being a chunky baby. My brother had to constantly remind my mom to dry my stripes. (He was referring to the fat rolls I had in the middle of my arms.)
No this is not a picture of my family’s pet bull frog, it is just me a little grown up.
Anyways, I wanted to help out with the nursery redesign and to affirm Ford’s masculinity so I came up with this.
I did my best to utilize masculine materials. This projects includes OSB, galvanized nails, angle iron, mirror, and a reclaimed oak frame. I love the way the stained OSB turned out, to me it looks like camouflage.
I removed the silver background of the mirror and applied blue spray paint to create the logo.
Later this week I will show you how I created this project and why it took me so long. With a such a small piece I thought it was imperative to spend extra time to nail down the details.
Friday night we got to deliver this labor of love and fortunately someone did like it. He told me.
When I first told Kara about my idea she wasn’t sure how it would turn out. Help me out and let her know what you think.

Love this. He’s a lucky little guy.
Adorable! Great work!
I would just like to say that I was not sure how this project would turn out. But after seeing it finished, I LOVE it. I think Tim did a fantastic job and I’m always so impressed with his attention to detail!
Very creative Tim!
Sooo cool, def something he can grow with!
Great name and great nose!! Love the sign!
I think thats adorable and so manly. What a cute little chubby guy! I have a chubby guy too 🙂
Tim — Your “stripes” were actually THREE rolls between your knees and… well… higher up! Great work for a good looking boy; your piece appears to fit this young hunk to a “T” (and NO ONE’S ever matched the magic of the “Model T”)! Like Ford’s parents and the carmaker, your work demonstrates: “Quality is Job 1!” I’m proud of you. dad
Long time reader, first time commenting. You, both, have such talent. Love Ford’s gift! Cindy
The sign is great! I love “manly” signs as it is hard to find unique ones out there. This one fits the bill.
BTW, I love Dad Paslay’s comment. 🙂
I love that, Tim!! And I love the title of the post to go with it, haha! 🙂
I didn’t know who was writing this at first and thought that’s what Justin called Tim’s rolls. Ha. It looks great! Good job, Tim!
