Sometimes You Gotta Sacrifice

Hey Friends!  Well, I have to say I’d rather not be here today. . . in Tulsa I mean.  First off, this weekend the Crossfit Regional Competitions are being held right outside of Chicago.  My friends are competing in the team competition and I so wanted to be there to cheer them on! 🙁 Besides going there as a cheerleader, just watching people push past their limits and literally give it all they’ve got is so inspiring and energizing to me!  If you want to see what Crossfit’s all about, you can watch the workouts this weekend right here!

Oh how we want to be there. . . but there is work to be completed and goals to be reached here in Tulsa.  Every time we choose to make a sacrifice, I remember that we are making a choice most people won’t.  Many people want to achieve their goals, but when it comes to choosing between fun and the future, most people choose fun.

I remember growing up and how literally every single weekend in the spring and summer, I would make the 3 hour drive to Little Rock to practice or play in tournaments with my AAU team (a competitive basketball team).  While other junior high and high school students were laying by the beach or going on vacations with friends, I was sweating it up in a gym.  There was a time in high school when I really started questioning whether or not all the sacrifice to reach my dream of playing Div 1 basketball was worth it.  It just so happened right about that time, I had a very unusual weekend off.  On top of that I was really excited when I got invited to go hang out with some of the “popular girls.”  So I went and about 2 hours in I was bored out of my mind.  They literally laid by a pool all day and thought it was fun.  Now I do understand that some people (Tim included) love to just relax poolside. .  but my thoughts were “I’m not missing out on anything!  I’d much rather be pursuing a life long dream and working my tail off than sitting here

Now that decision was easy for me. . . it’s a lot harder to make a sacrifice when you know you’re going to miss out on something you would really love.  A few years ago, a group of my friends had been planning a cruise vacation. . . one of which I would have loved to go on, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger.  You see I had been expecting to hear back from Design Star.  It was the second year that I applied applied and I had already received a few call backs.  The chances of me getting on the show were super slim, but I just couldn’t bring myself to take the trip knowing that I could miss out on something that could bring me closer to my dreams.  Well, the sacrifice paid off and that week I received a phone call and made a trip to LA for the final round of interviews.  Now, obviously I didn’t get on the show, but that trip gave me the confidence to think, “I really can make this happen.  If I want my own design television show, I can achieve that dream.  I just have to keep working and keep sacrificing.”  So, I am working and sacrificing and although I haven’t made it yet, I am confident that my perseverance will pay off one day.

And I confident that the same is true for you!  When I received a D-1 basketball scholarship, I could absolutely say the work and sacrifice was worth it.  I know that when you are pursuing a dream that has been put in your heart by the Lord, every ounce of energy you put in and every fun time you miss is totally, absolutely, completely worth it!!!

What sacrifice do you need to make this weekend?
