“Swirly” Art For Ida Red

“Swirly” Art For Ida Red

Last night I was working until the wee hours of the morning at Ida Red. I am busy creating a “Ladies Department” for the store. I have about a million projects in the works that I am excited to share with you, but today I just have one. I am working on a budget and wanting to get a lot of bang for my buck. Details are certainly important but in a large spaces, it’s the big, bold statements that are really going to get noticed and set the feel for the space.

So, my challenge is/was to figure out how to make these big statements with a small budget. Here’s a quick drawing I did to help the owner of Ida get inside my head and see what I wanted the space to look like.

There’s a lot going on in this drawing, but we are going to focus on the right side of the paper and those “swirly” things. I knew I wanted something that was artful and would draw eyes up the wall. I could have just painted swirls, but Ida Red seems to change a lot, so I wanted to make sure the art wasn’t permanent. I also wanted to have some dimension. So, I decided to use cardboard. It’s cheap and easy to find. I got out my pencil and box cutter and started making shapes.

Then, I spray painted them using 3 different metallic colors and hung them on the wall.

Pretty fun, huh?! I can’t wait to reveal the rest of the space as it comes together!
