These past couple weeks I’ve had the opportunity to work on a couple of commercial shoots as the Art Assistant and Director. If you are unfamiliar with TV production this means I was basically in charge of buying props for all the different scenes and then placing those props in a way that looks good on camera. I have been working extremely hard, having tons of fun, and learning all sorts of things!!!
You may be wondering how I stumbled into TV work all of a sudden. Well, it all started because a friend (Tim and I worked with him when we did themed environments) was art directing for a commercial involving the Oklahoma Lottery and he needed some help. Knowing my eye for design and my abilities to compose images he thought I would be the perfect partner.
This particular shoot involved: a high-rise business office (with incredible views of Tulsa), a lot of dancing, and an awesome modern loft downtown!!!
It was amazing how much lighting work had to be done!!

The camera guy (above) was Robert Driskell, aka Bob. Bob is the man!!! He has worked in Hollywood on tons of movies, including: ‘Robocop’, ‘The Horse Whisperer’, ‘Dragon’, ‘Jeepers Creepers’, ‘Dragon Heart’, ‘When Nature Calls’, ‘The Big Easy’, ‘Dallas’, ‘Young Hearts Unlimited’ and numerous Hallmark productions.
At one point, the director wanted another actress and he asked if I would mind jumping in! Of course I was game!! Then. . . they asked me to dance (insert knocking knees and thumping heart sounds)!!!! But, I knew all my practice while watching Ellen would surely pay off and I agreed!!! It was super fun and I liked being out of my comfort zone! Plus my back was to the camera and they were focused on the actor (a bank teller) who was doing his victory dance. 🙂
When this commercial starts airing, I will surely let you know in case you need another reason to dance!!!! 🙂
