WHAT’S MY DREAM? To make a living doing what I love (designing)! WHAT’S BEYOND MY WILDEST DREAM? That what I love to do would actually make a difference in someone else’s life! Now I have always believed that design can make a difference, that a person’s environment can determine who they are and who they will become! But there are very few times that an event is organized, a team is put together, and hearts are determined to make a difference like CLEAN SLATE is each time it takes the field.
What is it? Glad you asked!! CLEAN SLATE is a ministry built from volunteers. Some are professionals, some are homemakers, some are students, and ALL are hoping to help a family in need! At the end of an application process a particularly deserving family (or families) is chosen to receive a fresh start, a new beginning, a clean slate. The actual transformation occurs over a three day period, so you can imagine the amount of manpower, planning, and organization that goes into this powerful life-changing event.
The whole process can be likened to EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER (on a much smaller scale of course). They don’t demolish a house and build a brand new one, but they do try to destroy the issues that keep a family from reaching their full potential. And though there is no unlimited budget, there is a priceless opportunity. Essentially what CLEAN SLATE does with a house is exactly what Jesus does with our heart: Takes something old and worn out, dirty and ragged, hopeless and hurting and turns into something new and fresh, spotless and holy, promising and perfect.
I am so happy to say my family will be taking part in this incredible calling in June (on the 11th, 12th, and 13th). My husband, Tim will be a project manager and I will be a designer/decorator. The team is taking on 5 houses in one weekend, so the need for help is huge. That was fabulous!! It brought tears to my eyes and inspires me to reach out more and show others that anything is possible with God. What a wonderful world this would be if we all just showed more kindness and caring. God changes lives one person(family)at a time. Count me in for the the next Clean Slate!
