Update on the Upper Room

Update on the Upper Room

Today, we are fighting through the first day trapped inside our home. If you’ve watched the news lately, you may have noticed Tulsa (along with a lot of other cities) is experiencing quite the snow storm. To tell you the truth, I love the feeling of being “trapped” inside. Ask me in a few days and I am sure I will be singing a different tune, but for now, I am loving the fact that I have to snuggle up indoors. I plan on drinking tons of hot tea, watching a lot of movies, and doing a bunch of projects! Many of those projects will probably take place upstairs in Tim’s man cave (I need a better name for this room). As a matter of fact, I have an update on the upper room right now.

There is no door to the upstairs room, rather you walk right into it. This means that from the bottom of the stairs you can see a glimpse of the space. The room is long and narrow, therefore I will divide it into 3 areas: the entry (in the middle), a sleeping/lounging space (to the right), and an office area (to the left). Here is a little layout to show you what I’m talking about.

I decided the first thing I wanted to tackle was the wall you see as you walk up the stairs (which I am calling the entry). I wanted this wall to beckon people at the bottom the stairs to come up and check out the space, to peak their curiosity. Here is the set-up I came up with.

I have always and will always love the feeling a gorgeous old American flag gives. Every time I see one, I am thankful for the country I live in and the people who serve it. Not only do I love American flags for the feelings they provoke, but they are also visually stunning. So, I decided to hang this one as a tapestry for the “entry”area.

The “entry” area is completed with a chair, side table, a pendant light, and a few accessories. The side table is actually an old milk crate turned over. The stylist in me wants to fill the space with stacks and stacks of old books. I think it would make for a beautiful scene, but for now it looks like this.

I don’t know where my obsession with sock monkeys came from, but I find these little buggers adorable! Not sure what Tim thinks about this addition, but you didn’t think this was all for him, did you? 🙂

I have a “thing” for sock monkeys, too. I understand. Can’t wait to see how the rest of the space turns out, but the “entry” sure is intriguing!
