Visiting The Crystal Bridges Art Museum

Visiting The Crystal Bridges Art Museum

Hey Friends!  I’ve got some exciting news to share this week!  I am getting the ok from the higher ups, but I’m excited to fill you in on why I’ve been a little hit or miss the past week!

Last week, I ran home for a quick trip to visit my parents in Northwest Arkansas, where I grew up.  While there, my mother and I decided to explore a world class museum that was recently built in our area.  It’s called Crystal Bridges and it’s built in the most beautiful setting.  After spending a few minutes walking around the outside, I felt like I should call the makers of the Jurassic Park movies and tell them I know where they should film there next movie.  I took some pictures myself, but I thought you might enjoy some more professional photos.

Gorgeous, right!?  Here are a few pics I took- much less impressive, but I love the wood, concrete, and copper combo!

When you walk into the entrance of the museum, you can see a beautiful atrium straight ahead with huge, curved, wooden beams.  The atrium sits above a pond and I love that you can see the water reflections dancing off the beams.  It was beautiful and I imagine breathtaking at sunset!

Crystal Bridges had lots of traditional art, which I have mentioned before doesn’t really interest me.  I did have to take a picture of this piece because the hairstyles were so intriguing to me.  I wonder if that look is coming back anytime soon? Haha! 🙂

The contemporary and modern pieces were by far my favorite.  Let’s look at a few!

TV robot anyone?

This next installation was one of my favorites.  It just fit so seamlessly with it’s outdoor surroundings (it faced a wall of windows).  It also reminded me of something I would see at an Anthro.

This old guy was tuckered out after a long day at the museum. . .

IMG_4170

Just kidding!  That “guy” above is actually a statue! Can you believe it?  The detail on this guy was incredible.  Every vein, every hair, every fabric fold- perfectly realistic.

Then we got to the most important room of them all…

IMG_4179

Why was it the most important room? Because of that picture on the right of course!

That’s right, Andy Warhol’s original pop art print of The Dolly Parton is housed at Crystal Bridges! Love it!

You may have seen something like this (below) before.  Many people have recreated this “collage art” as I call it.  The idea and materials are really so simple, but the final look is lovely and very interesting.  Who knew scraps from a workshop could hold my attention for so long!

This next piece was another favorite!  You may have noticed that I am a fan of floral, graphic pieces, and color.  So this creation was right up my ally.  I found it to be incredibly beautiful!

If I would have cropped this next photo, you probably wouldn’t have given this picture a second look.  But as you can see, this is not person, but rather another statue/sculpture made from silicone.  It’s so crazy that artists can produce such realistic pieces!

So, as you can see, there were a ton of fun things to check out at Crystal Bridges and I definitely recommend a visit if you’re in the area! They also have some emotionally moving photography galleries.

Probably one of my favorite things to do when I visit a museum is to go to their gift store.  Museum stores always have some of the most fun and quirky pieces.  Here are just a few things I wanted to take home with me.

I did end up buying something from the gift store and it will make an appearance on the blog at some point.  So, stay tuned for that and other exciting happenings to be revealed soon! 🙂

Happy Tuesday, y’all!

Kara, Your pictures are wonderful and it was fun reading your comments. I am a Gallery Guide at Crystal Bridges and my husband is a Trail Guide. We are so glad to live near the Museum and even more glad that you enjoyed your visit here. Guess you didn’t get to see the many sculptures outside – do come again! Marinell Adair

    Kara,
I just found your blog today from thepioneerwoman. I am loving your stuff! We went to Crystal Bridges in May (we live in Edmond) and I said the exact same thing about Jurassic Park!
