Heavy To Heavenly

Heavy To Heavenly

Hey Friends! My posts the past week have been less focused on design, so today we are getting back to the primary reason for this blog and showing off a mini makeover.

You’ve actually seen this transformation in it’s renewed state, but I always think it is fun to go back and look at where a piece came from. The piece being discussed today is the table from The Architectural Dining Room Redo. When I started the project, it was the only piece that the homeowners asked that we keep and make work in the room. Here’s how it looked  in the original space…

The piece felt too dark and heavy for the space and definitely didn’t fit what I had in mind for the new design plan.

The challenge was to make the piece feel somewhat modern and elegant…for it to bring a stylish element to the room, but not dominate the space visually. My solution was to paint the base of the table an beautiful brass color and the top a sleek white. The juxtaposition between these two traditional (the brass) and modern (bright white) looks created the feel I was going for.

I always love the combo of white and brass/gold.  It feels so etherial to me, like angels with trumpets are right around the corner.  I bet heaven has a lot of white and gold. 😉

I especially love how the brass brought out all the detailing that was previously hidden due to the darkness of the piece.

Let’s look at a final before and after…

Yay for revamping pieces you already have to make them work for your new style!

See you Monday!
