Happy Friday friends! We are back in Cal’s room today! When I was searching for the perfect pieces to complete Cal’s space, I knew a great desk was at the top of my list. I stumbled across this one and immediately fell in love…..
….but at $4,000, it was just not going to work it’s way into the budget. Uggg!!!! Why God….why??!! (insert emoji with dramatic crying face here)
But then I had an idea! I’ve worked with plastic companies before. Surely I could get the piece built for less! I talked to a maker about building the top portion with drawers and such and almost pulled the trigger when I came across this Bernhardt piece at a local furniture store.

I thought the top was quite beautiful and a great size to compliment the large room we were working with. The desk’s base was detachable and it was built in such a way that it would be possible to add the acrylic legs I was envisioning to the sides. So, I saved myself (and my maker) a few steps and opted to create a semi custom piece by putting the store bought top with the acrylic sides I ordered from my plastic fabricator.
The finished product ended up looking like this….
And of course, I felt like a little gold never hurt anything, so the drawer fronts got a coat of shiny metallic gold paint!
I love how this piece turned out! I was able to get a look that was originally out of the budget constraints and saved my client almost $2,500! And that’s why you hire a designer folks!! 😉 See you next week!
