Hey there! Did you enjoy yesterday’s post? Not a video watcher? Oh, you’re at work and can’t access You Tube? Well, here are a few pics to show you our process and give you a little more info.
We were inspired to take on this project after seeing both Ariele Alasko and Jimmy Diresta’s work.
Ariele is known for her wood creations made using lath….
And Jimmy is known for making crazy cool pieces out of every material you can think of. But it was his meeting table that inspired this project.
Once Tim and I settled on creating some sort of wooden art piece, we started thinking about our materials and pattern. Straight away Tim wanted to use the scrap wood from his bowtie business. We both loved that this particular wood has a story and meaning to us. Plus, the material was free and all types were available to us!
The only down side was having to run the wood through a table saw a few hundred times…
While Tim was cutting the wood, I went about laying out the design. My thought was that I wanted the piece to mimic that incredible faceted concrete mantle that Tim poured us a while ago. (I’m just realizing I’ve never really posted about the mantle! Omg!! Look for that post coming soon!)
Once our pattern was set, there was nothing left to do except a whole lot of trimming, gluing, and nailing…
Below you can see how Tim would run pieces long and then use a saw to make everything nice and neat again.
And after a few days of work, we ended up with a beautiful piece of wooden art!!
You’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see the piece in place! But I think it will be worth it! 😉 ‘Til tomorrow!

I can’t even handle how beautiful this is. Nice work!!!
This piece looks great! I imagine it will be even more amazing to see it installed on your TV/mantle setup.
