Please take just a few minutes to answer the following questions so we can make 2011 our best year yet!!!

1. Pretty much everything except for videos. I tend not to watch them since I am often at work. My top two favorites would be DIY tutorials and before/afters.
2. Honestly, nothing!
3. I don’t have any suggestions for that since I think the reader will comment or ask questions if they want. Not sure what would make it happen more often.
4. Tutorials. You two come up with and make some AWESOME stuff, and I love bookmarking them for future projects.
5. Nothing? I like the mix of posts… Keeps it fresh.
6. Written posts.
7. Yes! Like I said above, he creates some beautiful furniture (helloooo bookshelf from the Lamp!).
8. Both. I enjoy doing crafts myself (I’m thrify!) but I appreciate the high style designs.
9. Both. I attempt both types, so it’s nice to have an option.
10. Fashion- yes. DIYs- yes. Entertaining ideas- maybe.
11. N/A
12. You do a fantastic job, and I really enjoy reading your posts. THANK YOU!
1. What types of posts do you enjoy the most? All of the above! You have such a great “filter” for sharing the coolest things.
2. Nothing! But if pressed, more photos are always inspiring.
3. Can’t think of anything – you do such a good job.
4. DIY, Before/After pics/phases. Also more of your lovely pieces/products to buy.
5. Videos. I am very impatient and prefer photo tutorials.
6. Written/photos
7. Sure
8. I like a mix
9. Both
10. Maybe fashion, but my focus is decorating and there’s only so much time in the day for catching up on blogs.
11. If my small business were related, I certainly would. I do consulting work but it’s not related to decorating.
12. Just keep up the great work!
Wow, that’s a lot of questions! 🙂 I’ll try to answer a few.
1. I love before/afters, DIY, and how-to’s.
6. I prefer written posts, but a video is fun every now and then.
7. Tim’s always a hoot, so sure! 🙂
8/9. A mix of crafty/design and difficult/easy is good.
10. If you feel a good fashion or entertaining DIY coming on, then I say go with it!
Looking forward to seeing all the great things you have planned for 2011! Have a happy new year!
1. LOVE your DIY posts and before and afters.
2. I would love to see you have your readers submit design questions (like photos of an area they are having a hard time with) so that you could give genius advice.
4. contests or design challenges created and judged by you.
8. Love the high end projects that are doable on a budget. Would love to see Tim and more construction how tos.
9.both
10. entertaining yes.
12. I think you should know that you are totally inspiring and amazing. I think you should keep this blog going because it challenges me to get to work on my house and think of fun new creative ways to do so. I am obsessed with your style. 😉
fun fun…
1. love the DIY and the mini makeovers.
2. really love your design style so it doesn’t feel like it is missing anything.
3. i read blogs for ideas. i rarely interact due to time, running my own little business, time with my kids etc. i am not a good person to ask as I am not really looking to interact more…
4. love DIY stuff…i am constantly making something.
5. nothing
6. written posts
7. yes
8. love the high style and the crafty posts…maybe more on how to craft high style:) really like the mix of both…the pics and eye candy are really inspiring for me.
9. i like any project that gets the most bang for your buck…they can be easy or hard but if the end result looks great, then i am in.
10. DIY and entertaining ideas
11. as i grow my business it is a possibility. my clothing line is so very different from your design blog, that I am not sure if i would be reaching my target market.
12. your design style rocks!!! happy new year!

1. I like makeovers and DIY. I really enjoy seeing other people’s creativity. My husband and I can make just about whatever we want, but I’m not creative, just a decent copycat.
2. I can’t think of anything this blog is missing, but will let you know at some point if I do.
3. I don’t know enough about blogging to help you any here, lol.
4. I would love to see more stuff we can build, especially out of affordable materials, and innovative things to do with wood. Mike and I both love wood (he builds long bows out of a lot of exotic stuff), but need our larger projects to look nice on the cheap.
5. I can’t think of anything I want less of, but I also don’t ever watch the videos. I don’t mind them being there, though.
6. I prefer written posts.
7. I’m unbiased on Tim’s participation. Whatever floats ya’lls bobbers works for me.
8. I like both typse of post, especially when the high-style design stuff can actually be replicated fairly easily.
9. I like both types of projects. We actually built our own house, so difficult and detailed works for us, but there is also satisfaction in projects that can be accomplished with ease.
10. I could care less about fashion stuff, and really don’t entertain much, but am all about DIY.
11. No business.
12. I think you should know that I really enjoy your blog. We need to get together and hang out some time when you are in town.
-Stephanie Luttrell
1-DIY, before and afters. I love pictures. I don’t always have time to watch a video; but I love to look at pictures with step-by-step.
3-Maybe you should have one day be a question/answer day on how to do a certain project. ????
4-I would love to see and know where you do your shopping; great flea market finds, tutorials on what to look for when searching for unique items.
8-both; especially if they are easy and doable.
11-no business
12-I would love to see how you and Tim remodeled your home or a future home you purchase. I am looking at doing that and it would be very informative and fun. 🙂 (step-by-step)
Kara!! I love everything about your blog! But, to answer your specific questions…
1. Favorites: DIY and Before/Afters
2. I agree with Shannon Phillips…let readers submit rooms they are having trouble designing and give some design advice! This might also help with number 3! 🙂
3. Not sure…..
4. More DIY projects!….with a comprehensive list of where the supplies can be bought. 🙂
5. Hmm…nothing. 🙂
6. I prefer written posts as they are easier to just read over…but, I definitely do not mind the videos!
7. I say if Tim wants to get in on the blogging fun, then we should let him!
8. Oh, I love love love crafty posts! But, high style design is also good every now and then!
9. I am interested in both! (especially if they are budget friendly!)
10. I think keeping the blog focused more on decorating is the best idea! I think most of your readers come to your blog for just that!
11. no small business here. but, if i had one, totally.
12. love your blog! and love your willingness to glorify our Creator for your incredible gift! thanks for sharing! also, i might freak out if i win some of your favorite flea market finds, so i am super duper crossing my fingers for 150 comments.

2. What do you feel like this blog is missing?
NOTHING!
3. How can I improve the dialogue between you (the readers) and me (the writer)? THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME! MAYBE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, POST A COMMENT/QUESTION MADE BY A READER AND COMMENT ON IT AS AN ACTUAL BLOG POST.
4. What do you want more of?
MORE DIY!!!!! YOU HAVE SUCH GREAT IDEAS.
5. What do you want less of?
I THINK YOUR BLOG IS VERY BALANCED.
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? I PREFER WRITTEN POSTS.

-SALLY ACOSTA
1. anything DIY related
2. not sure.
3. not sure.
4. I’d like to see more about how you pull together finished rooms, your process
5. For me, I am not as interested in the posts about the movie.
6. The videos are fun but I am more likely to read written posts than take time to watch a video.
7. of course
8. I am much more interested in the crafty DIY posts because they are things I might incorporate in my own home.
9. both
10. I’m personally not as interested in those areas but if you are then go for it.
11. don’t have one
12. I think you have incredibly original ideas and I love your style. I can’t wait to see what you will come up with next. I love that your DIY projects are original and unique things that I would want to put in my house, not just a cheap way to make something.

4. What do you want more of?
DIY!
5. What do you want less of?
Nothing.
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts?
A good mix of both.
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim?
Tim seems to have great projects!
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts?
I like crafty like most people, but high design is great for inspiration!
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy?
Mix of both is good.
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas?

12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know?
1. I LOVE the DIY projects using recycled stuff or the easy to find inexpensive stuff (i.e. all of your ideas of how to decorate with books and the tutorials on the book wreath etc)- it inspires me to look around at what I’m no longer using and to change it into something I will use.
2. I love the idea of pp to have people submit design dilemmas and to have you offer up some help- it’s so helpful to readers because there are probably a lot of us struggling with similar issues in home design.
3. See above ;O). Really- you do a wonderful job being down to earth and I feel like your writing style is very conversational- this is huge in relating to readers!
4. Tutorials- I love when a blog shows something from a store and then shows the reader how to DIY. Also- I love home tours, room tours etc like you have shown- it really helps me get a sense of how to incorporate things into my home that I wouldn’t have otherwise thought of.
5. I’m not sure why but video tutorials are not my fave on blogs- I really feel like I follow better with pics. But I totally get that video has it’s place and relays some info better than pics. I’m not a huge fan of interviews on blogs unless they involve tutorials or pics.
6. Written posts.
7. Would love to- I love how you guys team together to create awesome stuff. I would love some more tutorials from him on basic furniture or dIY projects around the house.
8. I like both as long as the high style is relatable to readers (i.e.- not including too pricey of pieces and focusing more on the DIY route).
9. Both!
10. Yes!! I love all things DIY- I loved your Pom tutorial- I used it to help make poms for my little girls party and for her room!
11. no business.
12. You are doing a great job! I would love for you to talk more about how to accessorize rooms- I feel I have a pretty good grasp on picking out great large furniture pieces but when it comes to pulling a room together with decor items (throws, pillows, accent pieces, mirrors, pics, etc) I’m at a total loss! I would love for more posts about this!
1. I love the DIY, especially since you’re so creative and I am lacking in that area.
2. The showing off of more of Tim’s work
3. Thought provoking questions at the end of posts usually do it for me
4. Thifty things that I can DIY
5. Videos
6. Written posts
7. Yes! More please
8. A good mix
9. Both! Since there are both types of projects on my own list its fun to see how different people tackle projects
10. Sure!
11. If I did, yes.
12. Keep doing what you love 🙂
1. What types of posts do you enjoy the most? (DIY, Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers, Features of the best we find in the blog world, Informative (how to use tools, design tips, ect), Videos) I love the DIY’s and videos of how to do complicated projects 🙂 Pictures are always great too!!
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing? Nothing…LOVE 🙂
3. How can I improve the dialogue between you (the readers) and me (the writer)? THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME! I haven’t been reading very long but it seems you’re doing a great job! Got a very quick reply to a question I asked recently!
4. What do you want more of? love pictures of design ideas….centerpieces are always hard for me. Maybe more of those?
5. What do you want less of? nothing! Love it all!
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? normally written- but videos are good for more complicated DIY’s (see #1)
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim? Sure! If he has helpful stuff to say let’s have it!
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? both!
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy? Quick and easy are always best…but sometimes projects take time! If there’s a quicker way to do something more difficult (that you know of) I’d love to hear about it!
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? sure!
11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee? I don’t have a small business
12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know? Nope…you’re doing an awesome job!
I am always a fan of before/afters. And DIY projects. I love seeing the evolution of a room or a project. I think your blog hits the right note so I wouldn’t add anything on fashion or entertaining.
I’m not a fan of blogs that get heavy with advertising either. It takes away from the content in my opinion.
I love your blog and read it everyday. 🙂
1. What types of posts do you enjoy the most? (DIY, Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers, Features of the best we find in the blog world, Informative (how to use tools, design tips, ect), Videos): I love them all… but before and afters are probably my fav
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing? can’t think of anything you are missing
3. How can I improve the dialogue between you (the readers) and me (the writer)? THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME! hmmm…. good question! I think it’s good as it is…

5. What do you want less of? can’t think of a thing!
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? both are equally enjoyable
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim? why not!
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? I really lean towards the crafty type myself…
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy? both
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? Sure..why not shake it up a little
11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee? no home business of my own
12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know?
hmmm…nothing comes to mind! Love your blog, I read it daily!

Hi Kara, I just saw this new post over on Colour Me Happy with tips about writing a design blog, and I thought you might find it helpful. You may already follow her blog – or not – either way, just thought I’d share in case it might be of use to you. 🙂
http://colourmehappyblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/marias-guide-to-starting-blog.html
1. What types of posts do you enjoy the most? (DIY, Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers, Features of the best we find in the blog world, Informative (how to use tools, design tips, ect), Videos)
I enjoy DIY projects and Before and Afters
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing?
I would love to see more projects!
3. How can I improve the dialogue between you (the readers) and me (the writer)? THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME!
I have commented a few times you have gotten back to me in a timely fashion. On a couple of the other blogs I follow, they do not have the approval setting like you guys do so I don’t know if that affects anything, but I understand spam.
4. What do you want more of?
DIY projects
5. What do you want less of?
Movie set
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts?
I prefer written posts because I’m at school or sitting in front of the tv so it’s easier to read.
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim?
Of course
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts?
I like the crafty personally.
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy?
quick and easy
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas?
entertaining ideas
11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee?
12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know?
Great blog. I also really enjoyed the dorm room challenge you guys did.
1. I don’t watch the videos mainly because I’m often at work when I read the blog and because sometimes I’m just too lazy :). I love anything DIY, before and afters, mini makeovers, and informative things about tools.
2. I can’t think of anything really! Maybe more tutorials?
3. I think the dialogue is great – especially since you respond to emails! Plus I always feel like you’re talking directly to me which is such a nice thing when reading a blog.
4. Tutorials (on just about everything), reasons why you make certain design decisions… maybe you and Tim could do some combo posts!
5. I appreciate everything you write/put out there even if it doesn’t apply to my direct interests.
6. I prefer written mainly because I don’t have the opportunity right now to build things, but in the future when I do have the space I bet these would really come in handy!
7. YES please! Any tutorials or ideas or helpful woodworking tips would be greatly appreciated.
8. I like the mixture of both. They are all inspiring.
9. I like both – it’s great to see beginner type projects but it’s also nice to think that one day I could tackle a more detailed project!
10. I think that could be interesting (especially entertaining ideas), but I also like it the way it is. However, if you want to add that in please do! I won’t stop reading 🙂
11. No small business – yet.
12. Nothing other than you and your blog are both very inspiring. Keep it up!
1. DIY, Before and Afters, and Mini Makeovers. You’re really creative and I like seeing stuff that you come up with!
2. the more pictures the better.
3. well the only email i’ve ever sent, you responded to very promptly! so seems like you’re doing great!
4. more mini makeovers that include pictures.
5. less The Lamp interviews.
6. i like a little bt of both. sometimes it’s nice to have a video thrown in there.
7. i dig Tim’s work, but I think your stuff is more practical for me and my personal/professional interest.
8. i know this isn’t that helpful… but i like both. too high end design is probably not very practical or reaslistic for most of us, but at the same time we don’t want our whole home/business to be crafty diy-ed-ness. so maybe somewhere in between like ‘high end design on a shoestring budget’ kinda thing. which i think you’re really good at, ps.
9. a little of both, but depending on what it is, i’m probably more likely to do the quick and easy.
10. entertaining for sure! not fashion.
11. depends on what the small monthly fee is 🙂
12. keep doing what you’re doing. you’re an inspiration.
I’m a new reader. I just stumbled on your blog in the past 4 months. I would love to read more step-by-step tutorials on how to make some of your creative solutions. I know your blog is more about design…but I think it would be great to see how you change things.
Thanks!

Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? No fashion design 11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee? Need to talk to the Boss 12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know? Keep it coming just more of it!
I just wrote out detailed answers and blogger ate it. Argh!
To recap – I think you’re doing a great job – you have a lot of creativity and talents so thanks for sharing it with us. No one knows more than I do how much work goes into blogging so I know how much you are putting in. Great work.
As for suggestions for improvement – I think creating the diaglogue is always tough. I struggle with it too. The only thing I can suggest is showing readers what you are struggilng with and asking for help (if you really want peoples input) and then sharing how you are using that input. Thats my approach at least.
To answer your other questions: I love diy tutorials so seeing more of that in any topic would be lovely. I personally do not like video entries – I just don’t like watching video on my computer (im weird like that). Elaborate or simple projects are always intersting to me.
And if I may add one little suggestion: I think a list of your favorite blogs in your sidebar would be a nice way of creating more of a sense of your style as well.
1. Oh man, I love the DIYs, Before and Afters and Mini Makeovers and the informative stuff.
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing? I wish you could give us a little more insight into where you find such cool things (or maybe you do and I’m missing it). How do we find cool things like mini filing drawers, enough retro thermoses to start a collection, and that sort of thing?
3. Hmmm… I read at work, so I don’t comment much. Maybe let us know more how to find you on Facebook or Twitter?
4. DIYs. The stuff you guys make is so cool! Show me how to be that cool.
5. Videos. I know you must spend a lot of time on them, but I read at work usually, and can’t watch them.
6. Written posts with lots of pictures.
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim? Yes! Would love more inspiration on how to make furniture.
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? Crafty. I’m all about the approachable stuff.
9. Both. It depends on my mood.
10. Nah, I read mostly for the decorating tips.
11. I don’t have one, but would advertise if I had one relating to funky home design.
12. I love your content and have passed your blog on to an interior designer in my region of the country (not near you) about how to blog about interior design.
1. I really like your DIY and Before & After posts. Also your informative and tutorial posts are good.
2. You posted a teaser to a youth room you were working on a few months back. Did you ever finish? I’m a youth pastor, and I was really interested in your take on a “stylish” youth room.
3. I think this is fine.
4. You and your home.
5. I don’t love video tutorials (I’d rather read what you’ve written). I don’t mean to sound like a bummer, and I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but I’ve gotten a little too much of The Lamp. I love seeing the sets you designed, but I don’t care for the interviews with the production crew.
6. Written posts. You are an entertaining writer. I read your blog mostly at work, and I can’t watch the videos.
7. Sure. You are both so creative, I would love to hear from him.
8. Crafty!
9. Either. I’m not going to make a concrete table, but I think they are beautiful, and I am interested in how things work.
10. DIY’s and entertaining…yes. Fashion…no.
11. I work for the Girl Scouts
12. You are fabulously talented, and I enjoy reading about everything you’ve done. You are a very brave person to have stepped out like you’ve done. Thanks for the inspiration.
1. I’m just gonna not help you out at all here and say I like it all, because I really do. I guess if I had to choose… informative/how-tos are my favorite. I like to see good design, but learning how to do it is awesome.
2. I’d love a little more info on how you make design decisions, your designs always look great, but where did you find the items and how did you decide they were ‘the one’
3. I read through Google Reader so the comment box isn’t right there waiting for me to say something. Not really sure what would make me comment more.
4. More about the process. I liked your commentary on how you made the decisions that you did on the movie set.
5. I can’t watch/listen to videos at work so I typically skip those posts.
6. Written is better.
7. If Tim had some exciting tools to talk about or exciting projects, my husband would totally be interested in that.
8. I like the mix of everything.
9. I like the mix of everything. At home I go through quick & easy projects, and long drawn out projects, so its fun/helpful to see what others are up to too.
10. I like the little peppering of fashion posts that you do, but i wouldn’t really be interested in any more than you do now.
11. Don’t have anything to advertise.
12. Love the blog, I found it through Young House love.
Your blog was the first ‘design’ type blog that I followed. I love seeing what you’ve done and your DIY’s are actually do able. I really appreciate that (and so does my home). I am actually going to try some of your DIY’s and I will be buying my husband a saw for his birthday just so I can make us a headboard.
I also just wanted to say thank you for all of your time and effort you put into the blog. I know it’s hard work and there are probably days that you don’t want to do it, but there are many of us who appreciate it!
1. What types of posts do you enjoy the most? (DIY, Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers, Features of the best we find in the blog world, Informative (how to use tools, design tips, ect), Videos)
I love your mini makeovers, B&As, informative tips, DIY… so basically everything. Your style is truly relatable and it seems doable even though it’s so original and you’re so talented!
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing? Honestly, you cover quite a bit. I like how you showcase your personalities but keep it focused at the same time.
3. How can I improve the dialogue between you (the readers) and me (the writer)? THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME! Maybe you could do a mood board thing a la Young House Love of old…
4. What do you want more of?
5. What do you want less of?
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? Written, unless you’re showing a complex DIY project.
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim? Sure!
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? Crafty- like I said before, I like how your blog is relatable and your projects seem doable. When bloggers are too into high style design, there’s a disconnect for how that can translate into my own home. You are actually kind of a bridge between the two.
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy? Both
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? I’m personally not very into fashion or entertaining (I invite my friends over last minute and throw some chips and dip on the table) so that’s a “not really” from me.
11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee? If I did, then yes probably.
12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know? Love your blog! DIY without looking TOO crafty!
Kara,
I read a few different design blogs and while I may enjoy others organization or content more, your personal style is what I most inspire to. That said, I’d love to see some easier navigation on the blog such as ways to search more specific categories. For example, I love how YHL does it.
What I love most are before and afters and quick mini makeovers. Tim’s furniture is Aaaahmazing, but I am completely intimidated by power tools, plus I rent and don’t really have the space to work. I like your occasional fashion pieces and I’ve totally jumped on the tying my scarves in bows. I do like hearing about mistakes as much as triumphs, as sometimes seeing examples of what not to do are just as helpful as what works.
As for videos, I didn’t really care for all the Lamp interviews, but I did love the tour of the house and hearing about how you pulled it off and why. For some hopefully constructive criticism, your voice comes off as a bit shrill which is kind of irritating. Perhaps a short session with a voice coach could help you out? And you could use a little powder to darken your eyebrows because they kind of disappear and make you look severe. I’m sure neither of these things are true in person and you’re absolutely adorable, but maybe these tips could help you…and I’d love to see you compete and win Design Star! You are incredibly resourceful, driven, and talented-an inspiration-and I wish you all the best success. Keep it comin’!
1. I like Before and Afters the best.
2. I love the blog. Can’t think of anything else it needs.
3. I read my blogs in a RSS feed. So I don’t tend to click over and comment, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t love the blogs.
4. I love pictures. I’m very visual. I’ve never see a blog with too many pictures for me!
5. NA
6. I prefer written posts with possible step by step pictures.
7. Sure.
8. Crafty
9. A mix of both.
10. Most definitely.
11. NA
12. You’re doing a great job! Love the blog!
1. DIY/before and afters/mini makeovers. I am a big fan of your blog and really love most everything about it.
2. Nothing
3. Maybe you could do a live quarterly DIY/tutorial (using skpye or some other form of media) and taking questions from readers/viewers.
4. Nothing. You have a well balanced mix.
5. I love diys by recycling/reusing.
6. Good balance of both. You are very good at expressing your thoughts and ideas and I enjoy reading your posts but also feel the videos are good and serve a purpose as well.
7. Absolutely
8. Crafty but do like high style
9. quick and easy
10. Sure
11. Possible
12. Your blog is awesome and I admire you for your tenacity & determination to go after your dreams.
1. Before & Afters and Mini-Makeovers
2. Smaller projects
3. I think communication is great!
4. DIY on a budget
5. Expensive projects (I like the inspiration, but I want to know how to do it for less!)
6. Written
7. Sure 🙂
8. I enjoy both
9. Quick and easy
10. Entertaining ideas would be great
11. I don’t have a business
12. I think your blog is fab!
1. Before & Afters and DIY – a toss up!
2. Nothing really – I know you’re putting a lot more emphasis on your design career going in a different direction than you initially thought. I’d love updates, but I know that’s a personal thing and I’m not sure that’s something you want to share…
3. I comment and post as I feel like, so I think communication options are just fine!
4. More DIY! I love the projects you guys come up with!
5. Less…nothing? I think I’m happy with the balance. But…a little silly thing. Post titles in caps make me feel like I’m being yelled at, LOL…
6. Written.
7. If he would like to. If not, I’d love to hear what ideas come from him, though!
8. Crafty
9. Quick and easy a little more, but I do like both.
10. Maybe entertaining style ideas, but branching into fashion seems like a big diversification from the home design scope you have now for the blog…
11. N/A
12. As always – love your work and your blog! Keep it coming!
1. What types of posts do you enjoy the most? (DIY, Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers, Features of the best we find in the blog world, Informative (how to use tools, design tips, ect), Videos) My favorites are DIY building projects and tutorials.
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing?
Perhaps a giveaway every so often, just to show off some smaller vendors (like Etsy people such as myself, I’d love to team up with you)
3. How can I improve the dialogue between you (the readers) and me (the writer)? THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME! I think responding to comments is a HUGE help. But you’re pretty good about that…
4. What do you want more of? More of your cheap DIY projects that customize your home.
5. What do you want less of? Nothing, I think you have a pretty good balance.
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? I prefer written posts mostly, with tons of pictures.
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim? If Tim wants to, sure! I think it’s nice for the builder to explain the building process. If only my husband were more willing to type.
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? I love the craft and home decor posts. I’m always looking for a good DIY project.
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy? Both, especially if they are explained well. Pictures are definitely helpful with the difficult, more involved projects.
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? I would love to see entertaining ideas, I don’t care much about fashion posts.
11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee? I would be interested if the price were around $20. I also think giveaways are a great form of advertising and I would love to host a giveaway with you.
12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know? I’m so happy that you’re able to do what you love to do. You, Tim and your home are very inspiring, please keep doing what you’re doing.
1. Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers
4. Pictures!
6. I do my blog reading at work so I prefer to read rather than watch a video.
7. Yes!
8 & 9. I like a mix of both.
10. Sure!
12. Keep truckin’ 😉
1. I love your informative posts the most – I think they are most accessible for those of us who aren’t designers but really wish we were!
2. More small-scale, you-can-do-this-in-a-weekend projects.
3. I read your blog on my feed so I’m not often commenting — seems like your communication is fine!
4. Specific tutorials and the reasoning behind design concepts
5. I’ll second Nicole — would love really accessible, inexpensive projects.
6. Written posts — can’t listen to videos at work 😉
7. No opinion!
8. Crafty
9. A combination, but I prefer quick and easy!
10. Oooh that sounds like fun! Fashion and entertaining – yes, yes, yes!
11. I don’t have a small business
12. I don’t even remember how I came across your blog, but it’s been a great addition to my feed! Keep up the great work.
Great blog!
1. DIY, Informative, Before’s and After’s
8. Both are great!
9. I just love projects so big or small, bring ’em on! 🙂
I haven’t been reading your blog very long but I think you do a great job! I really look forward to hearing/reading more of your ideas! Very inspiring!
1. I prefer: DIY, Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers. I least prefer videos — I only want to watch those if I’m looking for a specific tip.
2. More giveaways where I am the winner.
3. Respond to our comments via email or take reader questions (I realize you can’t respond to every email, but once in a while to show your appreciation would be nice!).
4. More of your home projects
5. Less of… I can’t think of anything.
6. I prefer written over video.
7. Sure!
8. crafty.
9. I guess I don’t mind the long, detailed posts even though I have a short attention span!
10. Sure, that’d be great.
11. No small business owner here. Sorry!
12. Um, no. Just keep on keepin’ on.
1. DIY, Before and Afters
2. I know you do it some, but I love your witness that goes back to the TRUE & BEST Designer of us all.
3. I think you do a great job with this. maybe it’s because I know the real YOU! : ) but you do well at connecting personal stories and making yourself very open and personable.
4. More DIY & more of your design rooms. I love it when you show a design board that you’ve done. I soak it all up!
5. nothing!
6. written posts w/ your picture tutorials are great!
7. who doesn’t???? I pity da fool!
8. can’t I love both?
9. quick and easy AND inexpensive
10. yeppers
12. I believe in you! You are doing a great job! Keep your chin up!
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
1. I love everything you listed. My favorites are probably before and afters though!
2. I can’t think of anything
3. I just like getting emails back after I leave comments, not saying that you do or do not do this… but it’s always nice to know that what readers say actually gets read!
4. What do you want more of? I think you’re doing good!
5. What do you want less of? Like I said before – you’re on the right track!
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? I do most of my blog reading at work, therefore I prefer written
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim? Tim who? jk =)
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? I like a mix of both!
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy? It just kinda depends on both, I feel more inspired to duplicate quick&easy projects though, big ones can be daunting. But then again if I’m searching for help for a big daunting task its nice to read about others experiences!
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? I think you’ve got a good niche right now, dont spread yourself too thin
11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee? n/a
12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know? I don’t think so?!
1. I’m the biggest fan of your DIY, Before & Afters, Mini Makeovers, and Full-Blown Makeovers. I rarely play videos on any blog I read. Sorry! :/
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing? I think it’s great overall – maybe could use more photos of your home or more updates on how the new house (when it comes) is going!
3. I have trouble with this on my own blog, but definitely by asking use to chime in with questions at the end of the post!
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? Written
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? I prefer crafty, DIY posts OR posts where you show how to get high style design on a budget
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy? Both!
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? I don’t typically follow fashion blogs, but DIY accessories would be interesting.
12. I think I saw you in Target in Fayetteville, AR once, but I was too much a mess and was too embarrassed to say hi! So “Hi” from Fayetteville! 🙂
THANK YOU for the giveaway!! I hope you get lots of good input on your blog.
meredithheard (at) gmail (dot) com
1. DIY! Also before and afters. Hows to’s are also nifty.
2. I really like the submit a troubled room and you give idea feature. I would like some more color on the blog too.
3. Maybe ask questions at the end of the blog, like what do you guys think of this?
4. I want more DIY!
5. I don’t really watch the videos. So I could do with less of that, although others might like it.
6. Hands down written.
7. Yes!
8. Both.
9. Both is good.
10. Maybe entertaining ideas, not so much fashion.
11. I have a small business, but I don’t really have anything your readers would like. If I did I would.
12. I really like the blog and site!
I love before and afters and DIY and pretty much anything else, with the exception of too many inspirational photos from the internet unless there is a reason you are posting them such as to illustrate a design principle.
I personally rarely watch videos as they take too long to illustrate the point. I’d rather just read text and see photos.
I enjoy your blog as it is.
I just for your blog for the first time the other day. I found on Hairdresser on Fires blog. I spent two days going over your archives! I love the DYI ideas (I want to build a bed even thoug we don’t need one.)
I also LOVE before and after pics.
I like to see design ideas that I could incorporate in my own home.
I love your blog and it has been added to my favorites that I look at almost daily.
1. DIY and Before and Afters
2. Nothing I can think of.
3. Not really sure.
4. DIY
5. Nothing, I read everyday.
6. I don’t get to watch video’s usually so more written.
7. Yes, more concrete stuff.
8. Crafty
9. Both
10. Not really.
11. N/A
12. Nope
1. I ♥ tutorials, DIY and any how-to posts.
2. A better explanation of the “living plant wall”. Anything would be better than nothing. It looks FANTASTIC!
3. I don’t really comment on many bloggs. But when I do it is usually after a little request for feedback on something that I am interested in that was in the original blog post.
4. See #1
5. Anything that I can’t “fake it”.
6. I really enjoyed the dorm room battle.
7. See #6
8. The Crafty-er the better!
9. I like all projects and am very detailed oriented but instant gratification is also very gratifying.
10. Personally, I think keeping blog content focused is better.
11. n/a
12. not really
1. I enjoy DIY, Before and Afters and Mini Makeovers the best.
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing?
I wish you would feature more diy and more pictures of your work. I love the bathrooms in your header and can’t find any other pictures of them.
3. see number one
4. more diy and don’t think a project is too hard for people to do. Inspire us, don’t lecture us that’s its too hard for a diy person to tackle
Also, don’t scream (caps) your post titles.
5. What do you want less of? videos!
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts? written posts
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim? yes
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts? I like a combo of both.
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy? I like both.
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas? I tend to like blogs that have a variety of topics- making it lovely, etc.
Keep up the great work!
1. Kara, the DIY and Before and Afters and tutorials are my favorite!
2. I can’t think of anything that’s missing. I really do like how you keep a small “store” where readers can purchase some of your designs.
3. I think you do a great job interacting with your audience. I agree with some of the above comments that occasionally solving a reader’s “design dilemma” would be a fun read.
4. Just more of your great projects!
5. Videos are okay if they accompany a written post.
6. I prefer written posts for DIY/Makeover Explanations.
7. I like seeing you and Tim working together
: )
8. I do like both the crafty and the high design. Especially on a budget. It’s a good balance.
9. Both
10. I like how you occasionally throw a fashion design out there for fun. It probably works as a good filler when you are working on a big project too.
11. I would if I had a small business that fit with what you do.
12.I enjoy your blog because of your tasteful designs. You already do a good job of covering design in a variety of areas, like your DIY necklace. Before and afters, and other home related projects are what keep me coming back to read your blog.
Don’t feel like you have to “be all things to all men”. Being who you are is part of what inspires others. ; ) I also appreciate your good testimony. Thanks for the fun this year Kara!
1. What types of posts do you enjoy the most? (DIY, Before and Afters, Mini Makeovers, Features of the best we find in the blog world, Informative (how to use tools, design tips, ect), Videos) – My favorite posts are definitely your DIY ones!!! So fun!!!
2. What do you feel like this blog is missing? – I feel like you cover quite a bit of stuff… can’t really think of anything is might be missing?
3. How can I improve the dialogue between you (the readers) and me (the writer)? THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR ME! – I’m a newer reader of your blog so I’m not sure on this one
4. What do you want more of?- More DIY! Love your book wreath tutorial!!!
5. What do you want less of?- Less expensive stuff and more inexpensive
6. Do you enjoy videos or do you prefer written posts?- Written posts
7. Do you want to see/hear more from Tim?- What you’ve got now is great!
8. Do you enjoy the crafty sort of posts or the high style design posts?-definitely the crafty!!!
9. Are you interested in reading about projects that are difficult and detailed or quick and easy?- Quick and Easy
10. Would you be interested in seeing my blog expand to cover fashion design/diy’s and/or entertaining ideas?- DIY’s!
11. If you have a small business would you be interested in advertising on this site for a small monthly fee?- If my small business fit I definitely think it would be a great idea!
12. Is there ANYTHING else you think I should know?- Love your blog!!
1. I’m partial to DIY and Before and Afters.
2. It’s definitely not missing creativity! But maybe you could add more projects and design ideas.
3. I say this with utmost sincerity and I hope it doesn’t come off sounding mean. I’ve left a few comments on your blog in the past asking questions about design elements and you never responded. I know the amount of comments you receive might be overwhelming at times, but not hearing back from you kind of makes me feel like you don’t care about your readers.
4. DIY and Before & After’s!!
5. Videos. But I admit they’re great for a quick how-to or to explain something that is difficult to show in pictures or in the written form.
6. Refer to #5. I prefer written posts mainly because when I’m stalking blogs in the middle of the night I don’t have to scramble to find headphones so I don’t wake my cranky-when-he-gets-woken-up-boyfriend.
7. If he has something to contribute that you haven’t already covered then bring him on!
8. I like the idea of finding a balance between both. I’m definitely the type of girl who likes the finer things in life, but I hate the price tags!
9. Again, a balance between the two would be great. I usually find that the more intricate the design the better the results.
10. Not so much fashion. But DIY and a little entertaining tips would be great.
11. This doesn’t apply to me.
12. You have great ideas!
